Patented Technology

RoadPod® VMs work in an array to accurately count vehicles, monitor speeds and classify vehicle type based on the length of each passing vehicle. Gap and headway information is also available and all data is precisely time-stamped.

Quick & Easy Installation

Each RoadPod® VM sensor is installed in less than a minute, requiring no cutting or grinding of the road. Data collection begins instantly upon completion.

Cloud-Powered Insights

Your VM data is securely transmitted into ATLYST®, MetroCount’s real-time Dashboard for road network traffic monitoring, and transformed into interactive analytics. View real-time traffic data, filter by date, time, lane, direction or vehicle class, compare sites, visualisetrends and export reports, with historical data securely stored in the cloud.

Loop Like Data

An array of RoadPod® VM sensors will record length-based individual vehicle data. Get access to real-time volume, speed and classification data, as well as traffic gap and headway information.

Sensor Down, Counting On

With built-in redundancy, a damaged or missing magnetometer doesn't mean lost data. Instead, the VM maintains full operation, allowing time for replacing the affected sensor. This fail-safe approach redefines reliability in traffic counting.

solar_power

Solar-Powered. 100% Off Grid

The entire RoadPod® VM system operates independently of mains power. Each sensor is powered by a small, in-built solar panel and internal battery. Likewise, the roadside gateway is solar-powered and has a backup battery to run 24/7.

Extreme Real-time Data Accuracy

A 99.8% speed accuracy and 98.9% classification accuracy when compared with inductive loop and piezoelectric data at the same location for the same period.

Real-Time Insights for Transport Networks

Using magnetometer technology, each sensor detects and classifies passing vehicles with minimal disruption to the road surface, helping transport authorities manage road, public transport, and freight networks. Accurate traffic data supports better infrastructure planning, improves decision-making and helps teams respond to changing road conditions with confidence.

Technology for Wireless Road Data

RoadPod® VMs work together in an array to deliver automatic, wireless vehicle monitoring with built-in redundancy for continuous data collection.

Each site captures individual vehicle records including volume, speed, length-based classification, gap, headway and road surface temperature. Speed data can also be used to calculate averages and percentiles, such as 85th-percentile speeds. This helps teams identify speeding trends, reckless driving behaviour and potential road safety issues. When multiple VM sites are deployed across key locations, the system can provide a more holistic view of traffic flow across wider road networks.

A Smarter Alternative to Loops and Piezos

Unlike traditional loops and piezoelectric sensors, RoadPod® VM requires no trenching, cutting or grinding of the road surface. This reduces installation disruption, lowers traffic management requirements and keeps deployment costs low. Sensors can be installed in seconds, operate off-grid and transmit data wirelessly for real-time access in ATLYST®.

Continuous Traffic Monitoring and Management

RoadPod® VM provides continuous traffic data to support safer, more efficient road-network management. It helps transport teams monitor traffic flow, reduce disruption and make informed decisions for everyday operations, construction zones, roadworks and major events.

From Site-Level Data to Network-Wide Insights

A single VM site provides detailed insight into vehicle movements at one location, while multiple permanent sites build a broader view of anonymised speed and location-based traffic data across road networks. This data gives researchers and planners reliable insight into traffic dynamics, driver behaviour and the effectiveness of different traffic management strategies.

How do RoadPod®️ VM Sensors Work?

RoadPod®️ VM sensors are installed on the road surface and detect passing vehicles using magnetometer technology. Vehicle data is captured at the roadside, transmitted wirelessly, and displayed in ATLYST®️ for real-time monitoring, analysis and reporting. This gives teams a clear flow of data from sensor to platform, helping them move quickly from traffic detection to informed decision-making.

What is real-time traffic monitoring?

Real-time traffic monitoring is the collection and display of traffic data as vehicles move through a monitored location. Instead of waiting for manual downloads or delayed reports, teams can access current information on traffic volume, speed, classification and flow. This helps transport authorities respond faster to changing road conditions and make more informed operational decisions.

How can I get real-time traffic data?

Real-time traffic data can be collected using connected road sensors such as RoadPod®️ VM. Once installed, VM sensors collect vehicle data and transmit it wirelessly into ATLYST®️, where users can view, filter, analyse and export traffic information. A single VM site provides detailed data for one location, while multiple sites can support broader network monitoring.

RoadPod VM provides rapid solution in Western Australia’s remote north

Main Roads WA needed to install a traffic counting solution as a backup in place of several RoadPod® VP sites that had failed due to flooding. The extensive installation normally required to replace the piezoelectric sensor strip sites meant that another faster deployment solution was to be investigated.

We would not use any other product on high-volume roads again! Switching to the RoadPod VM system saves us money and gives us more data, all while reducing the risks to our staff of being on the road. We were impressed with the timeliness of the installation, which took a total of one hour on the carriageway on a four-lane road. The 24/7 real-time data collected has proved extremely accurate. We compared the data with both video monitoring and a MetroCount tube counter. Our clients are extremely happy with the user-friendly ATLYST software, which allows them to view, analyse, and share information at the touch of a button. It is the perfect system!
