Hope you all had a good Christmas and new year. I managed to spend three and a half weeks of my four weeks leave flood bound . Things can only get better.

I just been out and retrieved the counters and yes two had a swim and yes they both downloaded Ok. One was under about 3 – 4 Meters of water for three days and as it came out flood water it just started counting again.

As you know we are using them to record boat launch and retrieval movements at boat ramps on the south coast of NSW. they have been installed on 2 sites accessing the Tuross river system. The catchment of this system received over 350 mm of rain in 24 hrs last week. This resulted in the largest flood event recorded there since 1974. It was with much trepidation that I travelled to the site armed with 2 spare RSUs to replace those that i had been informed had "got a Bit wet". I was well pleased when i opened up the unit nearest the estuary mouth to see it still functioning after being submerged for 2 days in up to 1/2 m of muddy water. I still held grave fears for the unit installed up stream as i was to discover it had been under 4-5m!! of silt laden log infested water. Again my fears were unfounded as it too was still blinking away under layers of black smelly silt. Even the tubing was in place and was free from rips showing no signs of water intrusion. I must admit i am pretty impressed as im sure this treatment is beyond what normally occurs on the side of the highway.

MetroCount are the only vehicle classifiers that I use for my business. The counters have worked in temperature -30c accurately to +40c. I set up my machines using my MCSetLite which is fast and easy. Less time on the side of the road makes it much safer for all of us. One of the features is the real time axle counts, which allows the operator to make sure the setup is running correctly and accurately before leaving the site.

Metrocount also offers great support for all their equipment. When I have had any questions regarding the counters or software, all I have had to do was, pick up the phone and received immediate service. That is so important when you are sitting on the side of a roadway needing answers NOW.

The software is the best! It is easy to use and the reports meet industry standards.

I have 14 MetroCounts and have tried others but have found MetroCount to be the best for my business.

As you may be aware, we recently had a significant fire here at ... Park, and one of our traffic counters became involved. The attached photos may be of interest. I was impressed that the unit was still operating and once I chipped off the charred remains of the plug I was able to recover the recorded data from the unit!

MetroCount 5600 is the most easy to use roadside traffic counter I have come across so far. I have upgraded my old (different brand) traffic counters with MetroCount 5600 units. The distinct advantage it has over the other brands can be summarized as follows:

- Accurate.

- Easy to use

- Each vehicle is identified with time stamp, thus any type of report can be produced with the data.

- Our crews don't have to worry about the type of report before setting up the counter.

- Long battery life

- reduced cost of purchasing of dry cells or eliminated the time spent in charging led/acid batteries.

- Easy to setup on site and download traffic data on PDA.

- Reduced cost

- compared to the previous set of counters (different brand) significant time is saved in setup and checking of the counter and probably halved the time it takes to install, check then download and remove the counter.

- Prompt and friendly customer service provided by extremely helpful support staff.

- Very good array of standard reports are available with the ability to create any number of custom reports. Creating custom reports is quite easy. When I didn't understand how to create certain reports the friendly support staff guided me through it.

The traffic count technology provided by MetroCount is being used by the Monash University Accident Research Centre to evaluate the safety benefits of various infrastructure-based road safety countermeasures. One of the advantages of using the technology provided by MetroCount is that the traffic count data can be used to adjust for changes in exposure before and after a treatment has been completed, which enables a more accurate measure of effectiveness. The support that MetroCount have provided in interpreting and analysing the data collected has been beyond our expectations.

I have worked for TSF for a little over 18 months now, and frequently use MetroCount products (ATC Roadside units) for the collection of data in order to produce reports for the benefit of my clients. I find these Roadside Units (RSU’s) invaluable to all that we seek to achieve at TSF, in terms of reliability, accuracy, versatility and precision.

In the course of my duties as Survey Data Manager, I frequently have the need to contact MetroCount on various matters, such as confirming that I am producing reports in the correct way for what I am seeking to demonstrate to my clients. All of the staff that I talk to are very knowledgeable about their products, and will always take time and care to ensure that I am completely happy with their response to my ‘many’ questions. They are always friendly and exceptionally helpful, and I must say that MetroCount is exemplary in showing what good customer care and relations should be like.

They make my business life so much easier on a professional level, and on a personal level, it is always a pleasure to talk to any of the MetroCount staff.

I thoroughly enjoyed the the Course and I will be planning to create the site list for the recent 60 site traffic count I have recently organised. I have also been asked that with my future annual 60 site count, to create a bar or pie chart, similar to what you have shown in the course, to show growth if any.

G and I both found the course interesting and valuable, we now realise what a powerful tool our metro counters can be. I spoke to one of my bosses on the excellent job MetroCount have performed in providing the Training session. I have also acknowledged the parameters of the MetroCount system and am now tailoring my counts to improve the data quality.

Since undertaking the training I have been in touch with MetroCount with a query and received good advice once again. I will be undertaking a... review... and this will give me the opportunity to... further develop the H. Rural City Council's MetroCount Program.
